I love Firefly!

I am a fan of most Sci-fi shows. If it has aliens in it, I will give it a try. Even my book is about aliens, even though it all takes place on earth. SO when my sister told me about a short lived series called Firefly. I thought I would give it a try. The writer is Joss Whedon, who wrote the Buffy the Vampire series. Unlike Buffy that has enjoyed an average amount of season, Firefly only lasted one. Don't let that fool you into thinking it is not a great show. Just remember sometimes TV producers are just plain dumb! That one season was enough to gather such a strong fan base that when it was canceled there was enough protest for them to end up making a major motion picture: Serenity.
The series and the Movie take place in the future when earth as we know it can not hold the population increase and so people set out to find another star system for humans. They find a solar system and terraform several planets and moons. The inner planets form the Alliance. But many of the outer planets are renegade planets.
The funnest things about this series besides the incredible writing and Witty characters, is that there are no aliens on it. Everyone is human. There is a huge mixture of Chinese culture in it, which if you think about it, China is a huge nation that is already starting to have a major influence in the world markets today. Just think what it would be like in the future. And these people are all forming new worlds, on many desert planets so it has an old west feel as well.
The stories revolve around Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his crew on the Serenity which is a Firefly class ship. This show has it all. Humor, Romance, Drama. I just re watched the movie and I still cried. It is just so good. SO if you are looking for a fun series, that you don't have to commit too much time to, try it out. I have the movie if anyone wants to borrow it!

You've got me missing those characters as if they were my own family! I love that series!! That's saying a lot too, since I've never been one to like sci fi. Oh how I wish it was still on the air!

I love the movie Serenity! I'd never seen Firefly until I went to AR last month and they were playing a marathon on the sci-fi channel.

Simon is a hottie, not to mention Zac Efron is in one of the shows. Hey if I, who doesn't like scifi or TV series enjoyed it than you know it's good!

I haven't gotten into Firefly yet, but I know it's just a matter of time, seeing as how Hubby's favorite movie is Serenity.

I know this is an old post, but I must say that I'm so glad (and so unsurprised) that you loved Firefly. David and I absolutely love that show! I enjoy the sci-fi, but it's all about Joss talk for me. He writes in the most amazing language, and it takes a special kind of actor to pull off such speak. Here are just a few great examples: BUFFY:"Okay, who is this guy and how much can I kill him?" WILLOW:(when being hugged by 4 people at once)- "Okay, oxygen...becoming an issue!" OPERATIVE (to Malcolm in Serenity): "You cannot make me angry." INARA: "Please, spend an hour with him!" Only Joss can get away with making a bunch of space cowboys swear in Chinese and use beautiful words like "Shiny." Love it!

Alas, David's parents keep borrowing the series from us but don't take the time to finish watching it, so we don't get to have our Malcolm Reynolds fixes whenever we want them. Also I really thought that more people would've figured out by now that Nathan Fillion is sexy and funny enough to be a much bigger star. Oh well! At least the public is appreciating people like James McAvoy, so that's a good start. (What a cutie!)

I like your blog, and I'm so glad you enjoyed that tacky music video. Sometimes schmaltz is just what we need to appreciate all of the culture we're trying to get. Of course, you don't need to go to Australia for schmaltz...
