Book Review: The Kite Runner

I first heard of this book in October when a friend suggested we do it as a second book club book. Not long after that I was in California visiting my husband's aunt and saw the book on her shelf. I mentioned that we are thinking about doing it for book club and she told me to take it home with me since she had already read it. I brought it home, ready to read and then life happened. So instead I passed it through my family only to hear what an amazing book it was from all of them. Last week I got it back and was actually not reading anything else and so I picked it up. They were right. This is a must read book.
It is the powerfully gripping story of two young men growing up in Afghanistan, each from a different ethnic background. I will admit there are a few hard moments to read, but they leave you better understanding the country, and what first the Russians, and then the Taliban did to it.
The story deals with human nature. Who we are, and who we can become by the paths we follow. It also shows how it is never to late to change your life. It is a tear jerking, heart wrentching, family bonding, book that is well written and worth every turn of the page.
I would give it five stars. If you are looking for something to read I highly reccommend it. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
